Pause, reflection, action!
Our lives move at a pace that vastly reduces the chance of measured steps and actions. A second lost feels like a lifetime behind. We don't just move at the speed of culture; We struggle to keep up with it. And in that struggle, we often don't have that moment in between to soak in the moment to project ourselves ahead. We don't get to pause.
I use the term "pause" quite often. I use it because I don't think any word signifies what we need more in the chaos we live in than "A pause". We need it to be better at who we can be, understand ourselves better, reflect on our past, and launch ourselves into the future. Our lives are built around these pauses. Yet we ignore them, avoid them. In many ways, we consider them a weakness. Something while letting others pass us by. But in reality, a well times pause is what makes you last longer, run the marathon with the right amount of stamina.
"Be fully present. Empty our mind of preconceptions. Take our time. Sit quietly and reflect. Reject distraction. Weigh advice against the counsel of our convictions. Deliberate without being paralyzed."
-Ryan Holiday (Stillness is the key)
It's like that moment before a big game, that important meeting, that crucial presentation or examination when the noise around seems to amplify, but your mind tells you to block everything out and breathe in and out. Blur the world, find flow and leap ahead. I often tell my daughter that whenever she feels overwhelmed by the world, all she needs to do is close her eyes for a few seconds and take three deep breaths and just focus on them. The chaos blurs, the mind finds presence, and you can be at your A-game.
It's time for me to get into my A-game now. So many exciting things ahead, and these two weeks I spent away from this newsletter were part of my pause process. Find your time too and use it well.
