1-1-1: Being interested, finding Motivation & not Quitting
1-Thought-Starter
“If you want to be interesting, you have to be interested.”
- Austin Kleon, author of Show Your Work!
1-Insight
Do you want to change something about yourself or learn something new, but can’t seem to establish a disciplined routine?
Ask yourself, why you want to change, or improve that thing? What is your motivating factor? Who are you doing it for? Is it truly something you want, or are you doing it just to impress other people?
If the motivating cause isn’t strong enough, then it may be difficult to get the desired effect in the long term. This episode may help you find out why you need to take a pause and introspect a bit before you set out to do something

When is the right time to give up? We live in a world that glorifies positive thinking and a never-give-up attitude. But sometimes, it may be your time to step back and pursue something that is your true passion.
Perhaps powerlifter and boxer Stefi Cohen is the perfect person to bring the right perspective on this subject. She’s a 25x world-record-holding powerlifter and the first woman in the history of the sport to deadlift 4.4x her body weight. So clearly “quitter” is not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of her.
And yet, as someone who has been a soccer player that built a successful career in powerlifting and is now in the process of transitioning into a boxer, she has quit things along the way.
Here on Ryan Holiday’s podcast The Daily Stoic, Stefi talks about the importance of three things coming together for anything you want to pursue in life: Skills, Talent and Passion. And encourages one to question before quitting: Are you quitting something simply because it is getting too hard?
This is where mental resilience comes in. The will and discipline to keep at a routine even when it may take years to have something that is evidence of progress as far as the world is concerned. Quite like authors who may not have anything to show for years while they are working on a book.
But then there are times when you might be stopping yourself from finding your true passion. Listen to this inspiring episode to learn about how you should approach your passion once you do find it. You won’t be disappointed!
